Oh how frustrating! But you have exactly the right approach in pivoting to something that the fabric might suit better. It is so easy to fall for a fabric and then find the pattern you want it for just doesn't work! At least you didn;t contonue on as that way lies disappointment and a garment you'll always been annoyed about!
I once went on an embroidery course at the RCN in Hampton Court. I did have some issues due to my dodgy eyesight which made the actual embroidery part quite difficlt for me on the day, but the venue is so fantastic I enjoyed the experience despite this.
