Fifteen. New sunglasses
lost overboard by mid-morning,
sunburn by lunch.
Bloodied by the volcano:
left hand palm sting
sharp
rocky
explosive
unforgiving
the path you fall on.
Teachers dismiss injury and geology.
Some of the perpetrators
you put in your pocket.
Rough pets. Guilty
of losing sunglasses
but finding friends.
